Brent's local Liberal Democrat MP Sarah Teather has joined her constituents to mark Pakistan's annual independence day.

The modern state of Pakistan was founded on 14th August 1947, when the country secured independence from the UK. The anniversary continues to be celebrated by Pakistanis across the world, and is marked with a public holiday in Pakistan.

Local MP Sarah was invited to join the festivities at Brent's Pakistani Community Centre, which is based in Willesden Green.

Local Liberal Democrat MP for Brent East Sarah Teather said:

"Events like this provide an opportunity to recognise the huge contribution that Pakistani people have made to our borough. We have a large Pakistani community in Brent and I was delighted to be invited to mark this important anniversary in the history of the country."
