Sarah Teather MP speaks at a press conference

The tornado happened a few streets away from Sarah Teather's home in Brent

Responding to news about the tornado in Kensal Rise, Brent, local Liberal Democrat MP for Brent East Sarah Teather said:

"This natural disaster happened a few streets away from my own home and constituency office in Brent. It is merciful that no one seems to have been seriously hurt, but local people are understandably shocked and very distressed.

"For those families whose homes have been damaged, this Christmas is going to be incredibly hard. We have a strong community here in Brent and I hope people will rally round to help their neighbours.

"The work of the emergency services deserves high praise, and I am seeking assurances from Brent Council that local residents will be looked after and cared for.

"Scientists have claimed that the tornado risk could be rising because of global warming. It is frankly terrifying that we may have to face this kind of phenomenon more frequently."
