Working to Make Brent Better

Tory Passports Unfair, Unethical and Unworkable Says Teather

12.56.37pm GMT Mon 16th Feb 2004

The Tory plan for 'patient passports' is an expensive gimmick, Local Liberal Democrat MP Sarah Teather, said today.

Responding to Oliver Letwin's speech on public spending and taxation, Sarah Teather MP said:

"The Tory plan for patient passports is an expensive gimmick. It's unfair, unethical and unworkable.

"The Tory plans will subsidise private health care companies at the expense of the NHS. I am already sure these plans will be bad news for people in Brent.

"Hundreds of millions of pounds will be spent and not single extra operation will take place. It is typical of the Tories that they are turning their back on the NHS and offering an alternative that will cost taxpayers more and deliver patients less."
